Our favourite day out
Our home spot on Garoda Beach is hard to leave. But a day somewhere new, with a group of friends, is often the moment our guests remember most. And our favourite trip is Che Shale: a wide open bay with five kilometres of golden dunes and unspoilt beach, about 20 km north of Malindi.
How the day goes
8:30 – on the road
We usually go as a group of about ten kiters. We load the gear into one or two vans and leave in the morning, taking dirt roads through palm groves and local villages – half the fun is the journey.
Morning session
At Che Shale the bay is wide, uncrowded and the wind is reliable, with conditions from flat water to small waves. Everyone rides at their own level, and our team helps with launching, landing and tips on the water.
Lunch
Crab and fresh fish on the beach – and if you have other wishes, we adapt the menu.
Afternoon session – and Hell's Kitchen
Another session in the afternoon, then back to Watamu. If the group wants, on the way back we can add a stop at Marafa Hell's Kitchen, the "Grand Canyon of Kenya", with its spectacular rock formations.

- Group: around 10 kiters; it depends on wind, weather and tides.
Jacaranda: flat water in the middle of the ocean
Jacaranda is one of the best flat water kite spots in the world: at the right tide a huge sandbank appears in the middle of the ocean. It works in both the Kaskazi and the Kusi and is at its best on neap tides, so we pick the day carefully. A full day at the spot with food on the beach, from €35.
The 15 km downwinder
For intermediate riders and up: 15 km along the coast between Garoda Beach and Jacaranda, with the wind always behind you (the direction depends on the season). Beach helpers, aperitif on the beach, lunch and transfer included – €50.
